Evolution of topological edge modes from honeycomb photonic crystals to triangular-lattice photonic crystals

چکیده

The presence of topological edge modes at the interface two perturbed honeycomb photonic crystals with $C_6$ symmetry is often attributed to different signs Berry curvature K and K$'$ valleys. In contrast electronic counterpart, Chern number defined in valley Hall effect not a quantized quantity but can be tuned finite values including zero simply by changing geometrical perturbations. Here, we argue that exist even when vanishes. We numerically demonstrate zero-Berry-curvature triangular lattice crystal slab structures which $C_3$ maintained inversion broken. investigate evolution from honeycomb-lattice triangular-lattice show still support very wide bandgap. Additionally, find propagate extremely low bending loss.

Influence of optical Kerr coefficient on photonic band structures of hexagonal-lattice function photonic crystals

In this paper, we have studied the photonic band structure of function photonic crystals in which the dielectric constant of the scattering centers (rods) is a function of space coordinates. The under-studied lattice is hexagonal and cross section of rods has a circular symmetry embedded in the air background. Photonic band structures for both electric and magnetic polarizations of the electrom...

Slab-edge modes in two-dimensional photonic crystals

We demonstrate the existence of surface waves in two-dimensional photonic crystal slab edges. In finite-sized air-terminated photonic crystal boundaries, the slab-edge mode turns into a lasing mode under pulsed optical pumping conditions. Analyses of the modal behaviors of the slab-edge modes by means of calculations based on the plane wave expansion method and the finite-difference time-domain...

Photonic defect modes of cholesteric liquid crystals.

We investigate defect modes of cholesteric liquid crystals as photonic band gap materials. For normal incidence of light, cholesteric liquid crystals exhibit total reflection for the circular polarization with the same handedness as that of cholesteric helix. However, the other orthogonal component is completely transmitted. When we replace a thin layer of liquid crystal by an isotropic materia...

Coupled waveguide modes in hexagonal photonic crystals.

We investigate the modes of coupled waveguides in a hexagonal photonic crystal. We find that for a substantial parameter range the coupled waveguide modes have dispersion relations exhibiting multiple intersections, which we explain both intuitively and using a rigorous tight-binding argument.

Defect modes in multisection helical photonic crystals.

We examine defect modes in four-section helical hotonic crystals (HPCs) that comprise three twist defects located at the intersections. The three twist defects are introduced by a single angle phit , but they are quantified differently by the jump angles across the successive sections. The two defect modes are localized at the different defect sites and can be either coupled or uncoupled to eac...
